We are proud to use 40% recycled natural rubber in our bodyboard fins.

At Pride Bodyboards, we now include 40% recycled Malaysian natural rubber in every pair of fins produced since September 2019.

Why?

Most bodyboard fins are made from natural rubber. Ours are no exception. Natural rubber comes from the Hevea tree, an argument often used to praise the merits of an eco-responsible rubber product.

However, these trees need large amounts of land to grow, and only 0.5% of natural rubber production comes from eco-managed forests (notably those devoted to YULEX® production). By raising the share of recycled rubber in our fins to 40%, we reduce by 40% the area of Hevea forest needed to produce our fins, leaving more room for biodiversity.

How?

We use a unique formula developed by committed scientists to incorporate a solid rubber into the process of making new fins. We only recycle rubber that has not previously been used by an end consumer. For example, we do not recycle old used tyres, which could reduce the quality of our final product. We collect locally (in Malaysia) top-quality natural rubber offcuts from factories that throw them away without seeking to recycle them.

Only 40%?!

To start with, we are the only bodyboard brand to include a recycled material in the making of our fins — that is 40% more than anyone else. By using 40% recycled rubber, we can guarantee that our fins are still the best quality available on the market while having a real environmental impact. We can also guarantee a perfect colour rendering and their buoyancy. In total, we will save 1.8 tonnes of natural rubber every year. We will be able to go even further with your support.
